What is acupuncture?

Acupuncture is an ancient medical treatment based on regulating the body's Qi (pronounced "chee"), or "life energy," which flows in the body along pathways called meridians. It involves the insertion of superfine needles into specific points on the body along these pathways. Each point has a predictable effect upon the energy passing through it, and can be stimulated during acupuncture in order to improve health.

What conditions can be treated with acupuncture?

Acupuncture has been shown to be effective and safe in treating a variety of physical and emotional conditions including, but not limited to: pain (joint, muscle, neck, and back), bronchitis, asthma, sinusitis, headaches, migraines, insomnia, anxiety, depression, chronic stress, digestive disorders, metabolism balance, weight gain/loss, frequent colds, low immunity and immune system disorders, cigarette, alcohol, and drug detoxification, menstrual problems, PMS,  and menopause.

Does acupuncture hurt?

Generally, no, as the needles used for insertion are very fine, about the size of a human hair. Some people have reported occasionally feeling a slight pinch, but most people enjoy treatment and find it very comfortable, restful, and relaxing.

How does an acupuncture treatment usually work?

In a typical acupuncture treatment, you will be asked to lie on the treatment table either face down or on your back depending on the location and nature of your complaint. Usually from 4 to 12 acupuncture points are selected for needling by the practitioner. Once located, each point is swabbed with  alcohol before the insertion of a single-use sterile needle. Generally, needles are left in place for about 20-35 minutes. More acute and painful conditions usually mean longer treatment time.

What is the cost of treatment?

Our treatments range in price from $65-$150 per treatment. The number of treatments required depends on many factors, including the nature and severity of the symptoms to be addressed, age, overall health, and others.  For chronic health conditions of years or even life-long duration, a longer course of treatment is normally required.

Does health insurance cover acupuncture?

Many major health insurers provide full coverage for acupuncture treatments, while others do not cover it yet.  We can provide a Superbilll that you can send in to your insurance company however; payment is due in full at the time of service.  We accept payments of cash, check or credit card.
